Autism
Autism can affect the development of children in many different ways. The two most common ways of how autism effects a child's development are through the lack of fine motor skills and a short coming of communication skills
(O'Hearn K, Franconeri S, Wright C, Minshew N, Luna B.). However when you know one child with autism, you know one child with autism, because every child with any developmental disorder is always different than any other child with the same developmental disorder. Also just because a student has autism doesn't mean that they are any less smart than other students, a lot of times some of these student excel in something like math or music and then you have to teach them in a way to where they don't lose interest but are still challenged by the material (AG 1.5). It is important in any situation to treat the child with the appropriate accommodations he or she needs to be successful. It varies depending on the situation, but engagement is a great way to help these children. Engagement in the classroom helps tremendously because often times they can feel so left out in certain situations that getting them participating in class can really make the kids light up so with the use of engagement i would get Autistic kids to succeed.
